Looking back, he’ll admit
idyllic days he hasn’t lived,
close to, let filter through,
an image, an hour or two,
strolling, easy words between,
hands held, his recall, the sun
out too, yet then again it may have
rained, he didn’t catch her name.
~
Looking back, she reflects
that day, not of her best,
her recall, he wanted more,
yet all he did was hold her hand,
that sudden shower didn’t help,
her thin dress, transparent view,
his eyes, she remembers now,
averted, yet then again she ran.
Two stories… but somehow, perhaps, one heart.

Perceptions of what might have been… a man, a woman, same day, same time yet different states of mind, and yes, their hearts still wonder why.

I gathered that. You say a lot without saying a lot. I like that.

I like that with you I don’t need too… sometimes my comments are me figuring out what I said!

The things that came to pass us by, we can’t, EVER get them back again.

You most definitely have the art of encapsulating those poignant interludes of ‘What Might Have Been’ in a but a few lines.
Keep on keeping on.

and while I’m here I’d made a comment on your ‘Revisions & Rewrites’ post – no doubt reassigned by WP to canned meats – this wouldn’t happen in Waitrose!

Sudden showers really don’t help, escpecially if your dress is thin. And a favourite line: he wanted more, yet all he did was hold her hand.
Idyllic, youthful — my first morning read by you.

Good to have you read me, Basilike – coincidence or not, since you’ve been back I seem to have found again my way with words.

That’s great to hear! And as you saw I am trying to return to shorts, and reading you gave me a push.

Fascinating, Eric. I love the different perspectives on the same event and how wholly disconnected they are from each other. Great poem.

Thank you, Diana – I wrote the first one to a Twitter (#vss365) writing prompt on Wednesday then thought ‘what about her’ and her take – good to know it worked!
