Beaconsfield to Marylebone
Maidenhead to Paddington
Windsor to Waterloo
lines in, and out again
Exeter from all begun
Devon left, half century on
River Thames meandering
fields beside, counties bridged
Buckinghamshire, Berkshire views
English ways, getting there
London, underground, overground
buses, walking, taxi hailed
Platformed faces, street eyes, busy
the suit, the dress, jeans, short skirts
all shapes, legs that go on, and on
smiles, few since the Olympics, wrong
seats offered, asked if okay, hand held
strangers, friends, would be lovers, strays
Wake, early morning, kettle on, need tea
still dark, recalled, sub-conscious scenes
write, behind the eyes to laptop screen
edit, rarely, as is, simple, concise, rhythmic
interpretation, your mind, what you see
life, relationships, imagined, real
Our lives, a long stream of consciousness.

Beautiful, Eric. I love the connections that weave the country together, geographically and between people, even strangers. Lovely people-watching. Great feeling of belonging and serenity. ❤

Thank you so much, Diana – trains and stations – destinations – without them I’d have few words… every face a story.

love this! you just took me through a childhood of books and tales of a place so far away but just beyond the next page!

Thank you, Gina – I’d have no next page without my day return tickets to London.

Wonderful, Eric! I love the busy, bustling feel of the first stanzas against the last stanza where the poet stops, refreshes, and ponders.

Thank you, Tanya – as you say all rush and bustle and then a sense of quiet takes over – mind you it might be exhaustion as this a long poem for me!

This kind of writing is making me seriously jealous of where you’re at. Happy sigh though. Thankyou for the share and hey I want to write about my streets too now … my insanely busy streets….😅

Thank you – yes, being close to but out of London is a good place to be – I’ll watch out for you writing about your streets!

Be warned, my streets are nothing like yours https://innerdialects.home.blog/2020/02/18/streets-around-me/, nor your navigation as scattered as mine😃. But thankyou for the inspiration.

WordPress in their wisdom may have put my comment in your blog’s spam – easy to check by going to your blog’s WP Admin then click comments and then you should see if my comment in spam or perhaps awaiting your approval?

No I wouldn’t ‘ve even thought to check spam if not for that heads up. Apologies🙈

No apology needed – glad you found it. It’s WordPress who keep putting me there for whatever reason!
